Common Causes of Nozzle Damage and Their Effects

Feb 29, 2024

Common Causes of Nozzle Damage and Their Effects:

  • Impact

Lack of sensitivity in the following motion, uneven surface of the sheet, impact during the cutting process causes deformation of the nozzle orifice, leading to issues with gas flow.

  • Melting

Poor adjustment of the piercing process can lead to molten slag causing deformation of the nozzle surface, also leading to problems with gas flow.

Effects of Nozzle on Cutting Quality:

  • Impact on Cutting Section

When the cutting gas is emitted, uneven gas volume can cause one side of the cut section to have dross while the other side does not. The impact is minimal for cutting sheets under 3mm. However, for cutting sheets above 3mm, the impact is more severe, sometimes resulting in incomplete cuts or inability to cut through.

  • Impact on Corner Quality

When cutting workpieces with sharp corners or small angles, local overmelting is likely to occur. When cutting thick plates, incomplete cuts or inability to cut through may occur.

  • Impact on Piercing

Piercing of medium-thick plates is unstable, and the time is difficult to control. Piercing of thick plates can lead to over-melting, and it is difficult to control the piercing conditions.

If there is damage or impact on cutting during the cutting process, the nozzle should be replaced promptly.
