With proper care, torches can last for months or even years. Torch threads must be kept clean and the placement area should be inspected for contamination or mechanical damage. Use a cotton swab and electrical contact cleaner or hydrogen peroxide to clean up any dust, metal dust, or excess lubricant. Assemble the torch so that the parts are properly aligned and snap together tightly. This ensures good electrical contact and correct airflow and coolant flow through the torch. When replacing parts, place consumables on a clean shop rag to prevent dust or metal dust from contaminating the torch. During torch assembly, cleanliness is important but often overlooked. When lubricating the o-ring, simply make the o-ring shiny. Too much oil can cause clogging inside the torch and metal dust contamination, which can lead to uncontrolled arcing in the plasma chamber and ultimately torch failure. Never use grease as this may cause destructive arcing and burning inside the torch.
