Composition of DC Relays:

DC relays mainly consist of a coil, iron core, contacts, and protective components. The coil generates a magnetic field when supplied with direct current, while the iron core, together with the coil, forms a magnetic circuit to enhance the strength of the magnetic field. The contacts are the key parts for circuit switching, including normally open and normally closed contacts. In addition, relays also include protective components to ensure stable operation in harsh environments.

Working Principle:

The working principle of DC relays is based on the combination of electromagnetic induction and mechanical action. When the coil of the relay is connected to the rated voltage of direct current, a magnetic field is generated inside the coil, which attracts the movement of the iron core. The movement of the iron core causes a change in the contacts connected to it: the normally open contacts that were originally open will close, while the normally closed contacts that were originally closed will open. By controlling the on/off state of the coil, control of the circuit switch can be achieved.

 

Specifically, when the coil of the relay is not energized, the normally open contacts are in the open state, and the normally closed contacts are in the closed state. Once the coil is energized, the generated magnetic field will attract the iron core, causing the normally open contacts connected to the iron core to close, and the normally closed contacts to open. When the coil is de-energized, the magnetic field disappears, and the iron core returns to its original position under the action of the spring, causing the normally open contacts to open again and the normally closed contacts to close. Throughout this process, the contact state of the relay changes with the on/off state of the coil, thereby achieving control of the circuit.
